The RFC MINI SHOW # 12

RFC MINI SHOW: Crystal Bright and The Silver Hands

January 27, 2014

Image4We recorded Crystal Bright and The Silver Hands last May at The Empty Glass and previously featured music from that session on episode 185 of Radio Free Charleston. We actually had lots of great material left over from that night, and you will see two songs on this edition of the RFC MINI SHOW, plus an additional tune on the next full-length Radio Free Charleston.

Crystal is a stunning multi-instrumentalist and musical anthroplogist who has traveled the globe teaching and learning music. Aided by The Silver Hands, she creates indescribable New Cabaret music that melds a world’s worth of influences into an exciting and cohesive new musical landscape. We are proud to bring her music to you on RFC. Be sure to check out her websiteand follow her on Facebook.

Crystal and The Silver Hands were recorded for RFC last May, with an assist from Steven Allen Adams. Our host segment was shot Sunday, January 26 while clearing snow off the car, and was ad-libbed in a rambling manner.

The RFC MINI SHOW # 11

Bob Thompson Unit Jazzes Up The RFC MINI SHOW

January 13, 2014

Image5This week, our tenth RFC MINI SHOW presents the funky progressive jazz stylings of the Bob Thompson Unit. We recorded these Charleston Stalwarts last month at The Boulevard Tavern for our Christmas show, and we had some video left over to bring you now.

You will hear Bob Thompson, Ryan Kennedy, Doug Payne, John Inghram and Tim Courts breathe life into “The Magic of Your Heart.” The performance (and the introduction) are in black and white, for no particular reason other than we think it looks cool.
It’s also possible that using black and white for the host segments was done to cover up the fact that our host, Rudy Panucci, was unable to dye his beard due to the water emergency. However, before we can say anything for certain further testing is neccessary. Until we have more data, we must remind you that a strict “DO NOT NOTICE” order is in effect.

A full-length episode of Radio Free Charleston will be winging your way in a week.

RFC MINI SHOW: Sheldon Vance

Digital painting of Sheldon Vance
This week on the RFC MINI SHOW we bring you the music of Sheldon Vance. Sheldon calls his music “Acoustic Country Punk” and that’s a pretty apt description. In his music you can hear traces of Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams…but it also shares a lot of musical DNA with Joe Strummer. Sheldon melds his influences into something new and exciting.

We recorded Sheldon at Kanawha Players Theater a couple of weeks ago. This was part of an open mic/concert series produced by Project Biscotti, whom you will be seeing on Radio Free Charleston soon. You will hear two great songs, an uptempo rocker, “Turn It Back Around,” and a political country ballad, “This American Dream”

Sheldon has a CD available and is also actively seeking gigs. If you’d like to hear this music in person, contact him through hisofficial Facebook page. Keep checking PopCult for updates on the next shows at KP, and for more info on Project Biscotti and Sheldon Vance.
